All campers are expected to find their own way to and from camp. We suggest parents car pool or arrange to use their church van.

Ranger Kids (K to 2nd grade) have a family camp-out once a year where an adult male has to accompany them. Boys 3rd Grade and up can attend Summer Camp with leaders from their outpost. Academy and Frontiersmen camping is for the older boys; Adventure Rangers and up.

Camp Wilderness has modern flush toilet and private hot shower facilities available to all campers, including Frontiersman Campers. Bring your own towel and toiletries.

  • Purchase a handbook for your son and review it with him.
  • Set goals with your son and praise him as he achieves awards and merits
  • Help him complete any missed lessons and assignments
  • Ask him what he learned in Rangers and practice with him
  • Add all events to your calendar and ensure your son is signed up in a timely fashion. The easiest may be to sync your calendar with the Rangers calendar. Follow directions on the calendar page.
  • Pray and read the Bible every day with your son and incorporate any memory verses and required reading into your quiet time
  • Always be ready to help Ranger leaders at events and camp-outs. Leader’s are not experts in every merit, volunteer to help teach a merit you know a lot about.

Due to low demand, GPH no longer carries the dress uniform or the formal uniform blazer. Alternative sources for these items are available upon request from the National Office. Call 417-862-2781 Extension 4181.

Trek Through the Wilderness

Backpacking is a challenging yet highly rewarding experience. Essentials of hiking – including equipment, first aid, cooking, navigation and how to pack a backpack are covered before you hit the nine-mile trail for a two-day backpacking adventure. You will carry all your gear in backpacks, filter all your drinking water and cook freeze-dried food over backpacking stoves.
